Just a little note...

Often, we tend to 'relate' ourselves to anything and everything. Anything to do with the word 'relate' is often complicated according to me. Relatives, relation.. add anything and it has to be nothing but complicated. You never know how a person 'relates' something to themselves. If it's positive, then 'AAL IS WELL, AAL IS WELL'. And if it's negative, it's just the beginning of 'ayoo thatha, pochu pochu ellame pochu' (Gone gone, everything is gone). Is it close to impossible to watch/read/see/feel something without relating ourselves to it?
We watch a movie and relate a few scenes or a plot to what had happened with us in the past. 'Hey..  my girl left me the same way and went to USA da, as shown in VTV (Vinnaithandi Varuvaaya - tamil movie).. damn machan...all girls are this way - always looking for exchange offers.. from idli cookers to life partners... if they find someone better looking and wid a better career, that's all da..exchange offer'.  Hoo boyyyy.. If I were ever to make a movie in my life, I would insert a  'It's JUST a movie'  as the last line when people are about to leave the theatre.

Again when we read an article/blog, sometimes we sense a connection - good or bad and have a laugh over it or might be sad. So, if you know the writer on a personal level, these are the few things that come to your mind IF you find a connection between you and what is written.

1. 'See, he/she has completely written about me' or 'I think this part is written thinking about me'

Now, remember one thing. When someone pens down something, it's an amalgamation of a lot of random thoughts, a bit of imagination with a vital element of exaggeration a.k.a masala! I'm sure your life is not an exxageration, am I right Mr./Miss/Mrs. RELATE retarded freak?? The possibility of having an individual's picture in mind is more often than bleak.Nobody feels like 'Oh.. this is about him, so I'l put it on my blog'. If you still think the same after reading this, then kindly go to hell. And if suppose your life was so interesting, I would rather make a biography out of it, so that it's beneficial to both of us - paisa and fame!

2. If the same piece is written by Mr.Unknown rather than Mr. Known, you would just have a laugh is it?
This is something that amuses me till date. Assuming it's the same content, just because you a know a certain someone on a personal level who has written something random, you immediately start thinking or feel offended that may be it's been written thinking about you. But, when it is written by some random blogger, you just have a reading, laugh over it maybe and move on. How can a person have two different perspectives to the same thing? Kindly remember that YOU are the not the only person in that writer's life. And please read the below before you start jumping on your seat saying 'Enna Rascala'!

My point - Anything that is being written by anyone is just to put across their views and what they feel about a 'certain something'. It has nothing to do with you, your life (you're not a Mahatma Gandhi or Aishwarya Rai to only think about you and write blogs or biographies after you) or your experiences. Well, of course if you do 'relate' to what's been written, then all you need to do is just have a glance, read through, laugh off or close your $*%#^!! browser! And oh yeah, please don't forget to comment! :P

Cheers,
Janz!

  1. What an irony. Looks like the readers of this post have to relate this to themselves to get the message - which is to not relate posts to themselves. Conversely, a person who does not already "relate" to your posts will not get the message.
On a separate point, there is no such thing as completely random thoughts or complete rationality (Source: The political mind-George Lakoff or any Cognitive science book). I think it is fairly obvious that your post is influenced to some degree by your friends. Then it is unfair to expect a friend to not think that you have him/her in mind.
Obviously your posts have great variety. Gives a great insight into the psyche of an Indian graduate student/professional in the US, not to mention your music. But you have to accept the fact that friends will relate to your posts where it is obvious, unless you cleverly mask it.

  2. Only the writer can validate what influenced him to come up with certain something . I certainly don't believe that writing is collection of some random thoughts .

I think this is just a reality check for all her blog readers(who are mostly ppl who 'relate' to her and whom she 'relates' to) to not take it personally,to not take it to heart...In essence, 'Dil pe math lo, haath mein lo' :)

  5. Just finished watching 'Deconstructing Harry' which is pretty close to the issue at hand here. Harry creates characters in his novels based on the ppl from Harry's life. And these ppl are angry coz of the effect the novel is having on their lives.
