Pilot: Not a love story

Disclaimer: All characters appearing in this work are fictitious. Any resemblance to real persons, living or dead is purely coincidental.

He is tall, brown and reasonably good looking. Owns a Hero Honda Karizma ZMR bike. His bike is his first love, like most guys. A silent, shy person with a 24 x 7 magnetic smile.  She is this typical homely beauty (haven't heard before?), slim and a very sweet girl, a chatterbox to the core. She is a bit apprehensive about interacting with guys as she has studied in a girls school all her life until now. But, somehow managed to be friends with this guy. She is a year older to him, and there was something strangely fascinating about the fact that she was older. And silence is the best part between them.

It is his birthday tomorrow. And she was more than nervous. This  is the 1st time she is ever giving a gift to a  guy. 'So what do guys like? What kinda gifts do girls give guys as friends? Soft toy? Nah.. it's more of a girl thing. Book? Nerdy... Watch? Beyond my pocket money.. Err.. now what will happen?', she begins to question and answer herself. Picking the most meaningful artistic greeting card is her forte. And this time she finds a very unique card in this Archies gift store. It had 24 palm size mini greeting cards, which had a birthday message on each card for every hour. And this card was strictly to a 'friend', as she was clearly fishing for that word in every card. Now comes the time to pick a gift. She sees a lot of pretty showpiece stuff etc, but all of those were more relevant to give any of her girlfriends than to a guy. And she is disappointed. Finally she decided to go for a wind chime, which is also a symbol of good luck. 'Can be given to any friend, even if its a guy, sweet and a safe gift.' she thought..Yeah, she does think a lot..a typical girl in this aspect. She spends one-fifth more than her allotted budget, but is finally happy with her purchase. She comes back home, stays up till 12 am. And at the stroke of 12, she calls him as she wanted to be the 1st person wishing him on his birthday.

'I hope he is not asleep', as she keeps saying this to herself, to her surprise he picks up the call in not more than a ring.

Girl: Hello!
Guy: Yeah ?
Girl: Happppyyyyy birthdayyyyyyy to youuuuuu (all exited and dragging the last 3 alphabets of each word)
Guy: Hey..thanks so much..didn't expect you would actually call.. (he knew she would)
Girl: Haha.. how could I not? What are friends for?
Guy: Haha.. yeah..
Girl: (thinking if he would make an initiative to speak first at least this time ..n as expected he doesn't...n that's the best thing she likes about him) so,coming tomorrow to college?
Guy: Yeah, hafta come. Have a midterm tomorrow right?
Girl: Oh yeah.. Exam on a birthday.. Poor u #Evillaugh
Guy: What to do? Am a good kid u see.
Girl Yeah rite..so what plans for birthday tomorrow?
Guy: Ur coming right?
Girl: Yeah..
Guy: So,I'l tell u when we meet up tomorrow.
Girl: Haha.. ok ok.. I thought surprises are normally given to the b'day guy/girl. But looks like it's the opposite here.
Guy: hehe.. yea yea..
Girl: Hmm..ok then. We shall meet tomorrow? (Still with a hope if he would answer anything other than the question asked..)
Guy: Yep..sure.and thanks so much for calling.. the 1st one to wish me on my birthday (with a smile)
Girl: (is smiling and knows hez smiling too) Sure dude. The pleasure is mine. See ya tomorrow and happy birthday once again!
Guy: Thanks!! Good night.
Girl:  Good night!
She starts jumping on her bed after keeping the phone. Small, little things do matter and that is exactly what she is feeling right now.

Next day, they meet straight in the college. He normally comes earlier than she does. He's already in college and she enters after sometime. Her eyes are secretly searching for him all through the lobby. And today, he is intentionally not standing at his usual spot. He decides to see if she actually looks up to search for him as she walks through. He finds his answer and smiles to himself. She, on the other hand, feels disappointed thinking he is still not in college. She is already late for her 1st class and kinda hurries up but already finds the professor in the class. She stands at the entrance of  the class in an elegant, flowy turquoise dress with matching accessories, light tan wedge shoes and an oceanic crystal pendant around the neck. The entire class's eyes are on her only for a moment, except for one person, seated in the middle row who secretly keeps looking at her for more than that moment. The professor lets her in and she walks inside with her eyes down and takes her seat. Somewhere in between the lecture, she tries to turn and look around and finds him sitting in the class. Immediate expression - raised eyebrows with a smile and he returns a stare and smile back. Both of them wave a kiddish 'hieee' to each other. After the lecture, he comes up to her bench and she spots his less than 6 feet 1 inch shadow.

Girl: Hey! Happy birthday!!! Waddup! Looking very smart? (he actually was.. and he does has a great dressing sense..so how would he not look good on his birthday?) And when did you come to the class? I thought you still didn't come.
Guy: (was smiling all throughout, as he was pretty much expecting all these questions).. thank you! Ur looking pretty too. New dress? Who's b'day is it by the way? Haha..Yeah Miss. late comer..came before you as usual. Did u look for me somewhere? How else would you know I didn't come yet. (asks with a very naughty tone trying to playing around)
Girl: Yeah.. new dress to college. Err.. no no.. asked just like that.. ah..why would I look for you? Yeah..if it was mid-day already and you still didn't turn up, then I will hunt for you. Gotta get your birthday treat rite? :P
Girl: so anyways, whatz the plan today? It better be awesome ok?
Guy: haha..obviously. no worries. Let our gang meet up after college.. I'l be treating you guyz at Ninth Element. Deal?
Girl: Yeyyy.. thats awesome!
Guy: And yeah, u can give my gift at that time. Not necessary to give in the college itself ok?
Girl: Hello! When did I say I got u a gift?
Guy: I know u very well girl :)
Girl: Keep imagining
Guy: (Smiles and walks off...)

What do you think happens next...? Drop in your comments! (To be continued...)

Cheers,
Janz!

  5. while all this was happening, Prarochana - his ex girlfriend was watching him talk to her in the class with tears in her eyes! ... how she wished that she could wish him with gifts and go out with him on his birthday. But, it was too late now... her relationship with him fell apart on his last birthday itself after she had surprised him with a wind chime present. "a break up for gifting a wind chime????" ... he had left his first floor balcony window open to let the wind through and hear the sounds of the wind chimes she had gifted him... along with the wind came a bunch of thieves and stole his bike keys for the previous Hero Honda Karizma that he owned along with his laptop and killed his lovely labrador dog! ....

so basically, what this new girl had with her as a gift for him was a key to a "bomb blast" .... and the fact is, the ex-girlfriend knows that this new girl is going to gift him the wind chimes!! ....

  6. "You should gift him a soft toy.", Prarochana said the previous day when she approached her for gift suggestions. "Guys love to play with them."
    "Really?"
"Oh yes. He cant sleep without his bedtime penguin pal, Hugsy."
"Hugsy huh. well, in future, he'll not need a stuffed toy for bedtime, if you know what i mean."
Even their hairclips knew what she meant. "No", said Prarochana green with envy.
"Never mind. tell me something else"
"Gift him a watch. He really likes TagHeurs. Or gift him a book on Relativistic Psychology. It'll say a lot about you. Or a deodorant. It'll say a lot about him. Oh no wait, gift him a wind chime. It'll bring good luck to both your lives."
"oh you're so great. Thank you Prarochana"

  7. After the exams, she (lets call our heroine Najani, since we do not know her right name ... no anagram intended) was waiting near the parking lot for him. No wait has ever been so excruciating, she was noting down the minutest of things around her. so that she could put the entire experience down into one nice blogpost. And then she saw the dude come, 'how does he still look so fresh ? What punyas I must have done in my previous births to have met this guy? He is my Mr Perfect' she thought to herself.
'You have been waiting for long?', he asked. 'Ya' she said and murmured 'for 22 long years'. 'What?' he asked. 'No where is the rest of the gang ?' she asked. 'They are all waiting for me, hey Najani I was thinking all through my exam what an important day it is for me today. I'm going to tell you what is in my heart, I will do it after we meet the gang' he said. Ah, that felt like eating gongra chutney in an empty stomach, she was glad that even he was thinking on the same lines. Her thoughts went to how they were going to gt married and the 17 kids they were going to have and she started blushing. "Hey get on the bike", he said. Her cheeks had turned pink, pink enough to make any guy sink, he had to wink to stop the light from hitting his eye. The karizma vroomed towards Nineth element.
At the restaurant, he said "Shall I order the food for all of us", he said. "Hey but where is the gang", she asked. "They are waiting for us elsewhere, lets parcel the food and carry it" he said. He went ahead and order 10 plates of Hyderabadi Biryani and half a kg of chillies for casual munching. She thought how even she would have ordered the same thing and how they were totally in sync. (9 out of every 10 guys who come to that hotel eat Hyderabad Biryani - Deccan chronicle).

  8. Then they headed out and this time on the national highway. "Where are you taking me?" she asked. "Trust me, our paths have been laid out, we will go where we have to go", he said. She did not understand a word of what he said, she did not know how to react. She decided she would just blush, since that had done it many times before.
They traveled really far and almost hit the Hyderabad border. There there were a group of 10 other dudes all wearing purple. "Ok, I will die of a heart attack if you make me any longer" she said, but also thought how would that happen when her heart is itself with someone else. "Ya I will tell you", he said and started looking at Hyderabad and in the other direction. "Do you know what is the average number of biscuits a Hyderabad kid eats and a kid in Rayalaseema eats" he asked. Looking at her 'what the hell was that' reaction he continued, "I'm going to join the Rayalaseema liberation front" he said. "What ? I mean why ?". " Why a separate Rayalaseema, let me tell you and he started puking out tonnes of stats he had crammed it, she tried stopping him multiple times. tried looking disinterested, yawned, sang and almost did a somersault but nothing could stop him. Her legs were already aching because of jumping on her bed last night. He finally finished and said, "now do you agree?" he asked. "Ah but why now ? This is all too sudden", she said. "Ya I was doing my mid term preps and wanted to keep myself awake by watching some Vijayshanthi action videos. In the related videos, I saw a Telangana speech by her, clicked on it and then saw this video on Rayalaseema in the related videos there. It was one inspiring speech by Dr Venkatappa naidu. He is PhD in state formation from Osmania" he said. "Damn youtube" she said. She realized this guy had gone too far. "But what about the food, where is the gang", "the food is for the Rayalaseema poors, its my idea of taking some resources out of Hyderabad and this is the gang", he pointed to the purple shirt dudes, who were all waiting to leave. "Ok man, why did you call me for this" she said, totally givn up. "Ah I want you to go home and tell my parents this, I want more guys to follow me". "Your father will track you down man" she said. "No he cannot" he said and took a small mole sticker from his pocket and stuck it below his eyes. "Do I look recognizable" he asked. "No" she said deciding to humor the lunatic he had turned into. He had in a way become unrecognizable.
She decided to get rid of her wind chimes and gave it to him. He removed it from the box, and let it hang. A gust of wind blew out of Hyderabad and the thing started clinging. "The winds of change are coming" he said and bolted out of Hyderabad with his fellow purple brothers.
She pinched herself to make sure all this was not a bad dream, "Ah" she shouted in the pain the pinch gave her. It was reality after all. She wondered how to get back home, thats when she saw a Yamaha FZ heading towards Hyderabad. She showed the lift sign and the guy stopped. He removed his helmet and she was blown over, She looked like the man of her favorite movie star Balakrishna, "can you take me with you .. I mean drop me at my place" she asked. "Anything for a gorgeous" he said. Her cheeks had turned pink, pink enough to make any guy sink, he had to wink to stop the light from hitting his eye. 'He is my Mr Perfect' she said to herself.
