Recently, one of my friends suggested me to watch a telugu movie called LBW. At the first thought, I wondered what kinda movie name is that? What would LBW stand for? Leg before wicket? Has the movie got to do something related to cricket? I guess that is something obvious that will strike many of us. Anyways, I didn't really bother to ask what is the movie about, or who is the cast, or AT LEAST what does it stand for?
I made it a point to better sleep on time atleast starting today (and this goes on...). Before sleeping, like most of us, just wanted to watch some 'short' video and then doze off. Sometimes (and in my case, most of the times), when I really want to watch something, I never get anything. I know there is youtube, blah blabla blabla for everything. But, at that moment when I sit for a cup of coffee, or lunch/dinner, half the time goes by searching what to watch and then gets me so frustrated. So, today, it was pretty much the same. Took nearly 20 minutes for me to keep randomly browsing what I wanted to watch, and then finally randomly struck me to watch this movie. Oh hold on! Not the entire movie, but just the first 15-20 minutes, and then watch the rest later. And I ended up watching the entire movie till 6 AM !!!
Wel, on the whole, it was a very different movie. Quite impressive and honestly a very sensible movie after a long time. It has no hero-heroine romance, no punch dialogues, no action sequences, definitely not a predictable plot (as in many movies) and all debutant actors who are typically the "boy next door" and "girl next door" kind. The creative sit-com and the right timing was too good.
The story revolves around two parallel stories set in India and US and the connection between the two. The first story based in Dallas, TX where there are two best friends (a guy and a girl) working for IBM and staying together, travel together for work etc etc. Both of them develop a great rapport with each other. The girl is in love with the guy, but its not vice versa. A common friend comes into play, and the rest is about how things change between the three friends. Life in USA is taken in quite a realistic way, with respect to the daily activities and how things work here and stuff. Its been quite a while since I have seen a movie where desi life in US has been shown in a larger detail.
The second story is based in Hyderabad. Two best friends who are total opposites. One of them is the decent, proper guy. The other being totally into habits and extremely vulnerable in nature. They get introduced to a gal through common friends. The remaining part of the story is on whom the gal ends up being with AND the connection with the first story. I don't wish to narrate the entire story right here, as I do not want to spoil the suspense of others, and trust me, its definitely a one-time watch! You 'l NEVER regret it. :)
After watching the movie, I could relate quite a lot of it to my friends. Sometimes, its hard to say if a decision is good/bad or right/wrong. For instance, in the Hyderbad story of this movie, "girl 1" is this systematic, sensible girl but kinda innocent and gullible. She gets into a relationship with "guy 1", who is volatile, alcoholic and extremly irresponsible. He messes up his life big time, and tries to mess up hers too. She realizes and breaks up with him for his traits as mentioned above. Meanwhile, there is a common friend "guy 2" who realizes that the girl is innocent but gets into a wrong relationship and tries to be supportive of her. Eventually, they end up being together, but this is not the end of it (in the movie.. I meant). We would have heard or seen similar cases. Now, whose decision is right? which is a good or a bad decision? "All is well that ends well" phrases, just don't fit into such cases, a lot of times. I'l tell you why. On whether the decision is right or wrong, we are none to comment on it (though a lot of us do, that is human tendency after all, and we love framing an opinion and expressing the same in most cases!), unless we are into the exact same shoes, we really don't get to know the pinch of it. I kinda realized it when I saw this one. On whether its a good or bad decision that "X" and "Y" have ended up together, in a lotta cases, "X" and "Y" themselves might not know the answer to this question, leave alone us giving our expert opinion. (One example can be the climax of this movie, well though its a lil 'hatke', stuff like this happen). Also, on "All is well that ends well" note, I would rather rephrase it as "And life goes on", whether its a "and they lived happily ever after" or the vice versa.
If the above seems any sensible or intriguing, go and watch this movie for a fresh feel, if you like to try "different" movies and a story that one might have never seen on-screen.. (not that I'm aware of). For all those who don't understand telugu, you might need to wait a lil longer to see this WITH subtitles, if interested :)
And, finally, this is in a nutshell, 'Life Before Wedding'! (the full form of the movie title) :)
Cheers,
Janz!
